Why Patients Are Flying to China

Over the past three years, international patient visits to China grew 73.6%. Here is what drives it.

💰

Price

Comparable surgeries cost 1/3 to 1/10 of US and European prices — quality equipment, internationally trained surgeons, different labor economics.

Speed

MRI with report the same day. From first consultation to surgery typically 1–2 weeks. No months-long queues.

🔬

Technology

World-leading centers in proton-heavy-ion radiotherapy and advanced cell therapies — some approved only in China.

The S2 Medical Visa, Made Simple

Paid treatment in China requires an S2 visa (annotated "treatment") — not a tourist visa. Four steps:

1. It's the legal route — tourist visas don't cover treatment

L (tourist) and Q2 (family visit) visas officially do not cover paid medical treatment. S2 is the visa category that matches a hospital admission letter.

2. 180 days per stay — real room for recovery

Surgery, multiple chemo cycles, TCM rehabilitation programs — an S2 gives you up to 180 days, not a rushed 30.

3. Extendable inside China if treatment runs long

If your doctor needs more time, you apply to extend your stay with updated hospital documents — without leaving the country.

4. The visa-free trap: 30 days, and you can't convert

Visa-free entry covers only short outpatient visits. It cannot be converted to an S2 inside China — patients have had to interrupt treatment and fly out. Plan S2 before you travel.

1

Hospital admission letter

A stamped confirmation letter from a licensed Chinese hospital stating the treatment plan and duration. We obtain this for you.

2

Prepare your documents

Passport (6+ months validity), application form, photo, proof of funds (commonly ≥ $10,000 statement), and the admission letter.

3

Apply at the Chinese consulate

Apply 4–6 weeks before treatment. Companions (up to 2 immediate family members) apply for their own S2 visas with notarized kinship proof.

4

Arrive & register

Stay up to 180 days. Register accommodation within 24 hours of arrival. If treatment runs long, we help extend your stay with updated hospital documents.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enter on a tourist visa and get treatment?
No. Paid medical treatment requires an S2 visa. Visa-free entry only covers short outpatient visits (typically under 30 days) and cannot be converted inside China.
How long can I stay for treatment?
S2 visas allow up to 180 days per stay. For longer treatment plans, an S1 visa with a residence permit is required — we advise on the right route during assessment.
Can I use my international health insurance?
Selected hospitals in our network have direct-billing agreements with 15+ international insurers (AIA, AXA, MSH, Allianz and others). We check your policy before admission.
Do the doctors speak English?
International departments have English-speaking coordinators, and many senior physicians read English literature daily. For everything else — forms, nurses, pharmacy, discharge — your dedicated interpreter covers you.
What does your service cost?
The case assessment is free. If you proceed, you pay one transparent concierge package fee — quoted after medical review. Hospital bills are paid directly to the hospital, never through us.
